De Stijl

What a great idea: why not redesign some of the wonderful designs made by De Stijl or Koloman Moser, or anything art nouveau, art deco.

Easier said than done!

With my trusty pencil, I started charting Vilmos Huszár's Skaters. Great fun to make and I started by determining what the measure of "1" was. Almost as if you're playing with Lego!

Next up, another member of De Stijl: Bart van der Leck and one of his Factory compositions. Again I had to start with the measure of "1" block versus "1" stitch. I might in the future follow all of his factory compostions, from realistic to very abstract.

As I was enjoying this conversion of De Stijl paintings into cross stitch, I decided to go one step further. See if I could adjust a design by Koloman Moser into a cross stitch version. Reader, I tried, I did. I failed.
